Project Description
WHAT DOES THE FOUNDATION DO?
In paying the bail amount of prisoners, the Foundation follows these criteria and takes action only if all of these are satisfied
- Recommendation and good conduct clearance of the prison authority
- Consent of the family members
- Bail amount less than Rs 10,000
- Financially weak family
- First time offender with minor crimes.
- Exclude inmates charged with violent crime like murder, assault or rape
The Foundation team works to get all required clearances and complete the background check. Subsequently, the team approaches the respective courts and gets necessary permission for the release of prisoners, by paying the due amount.
HOW IT STARTED?
Prisons in Maharashtra and most states in India are over-crowded and house prisoners much higher than their capacities. Many inmates are awaiting trial for bailable minor crimes and some have even served their maximum possible sentences for their crime while still being on trial. Bail amount of as low as Rs 400 are unaffordable for some of the inmates. The Foundation team endeavours to release such prisoners on bail so that their financial condition does not impede in getting justice.
